Hello everyone! Today we are going to unveil our penultimate playable race and class: the Bacarian Medic! This is probably my favorite combination of race and class so far, and I absolutely love what Adam Kovar (@adamkovarart) came up with for the design of the species. Before we dive into the new race, let's start with the Medic class.
I love healers. They're so criminally underrated in most game systems, but without them the party would never complete their objective. Just because their damage-per-round output isn't very high doesn't mean they aren't valuable members of the group. So, when developing the Medic for this new game system, I knew I wanted their impact to be known even when they weren't providing consistent healing. To start, Medics have what I consider to be the coolest weapon in the game, the Flex Rifle. This multipurpose gun has two fire modes, one that heals and one that damages, meaning you can position yourself in a favorable vantage point and provide long range support to your team. But if being out of the fray isn't your cup of tea, you can choose the Combat Medic subclass and provide close range healing and support, with increased shields and health.
For the Bacarian, I knew early on in development that I wanted an aquatic race of creatures. Someone who felt more at home in the sea than they do on land. I was inspired by the games and movies I have loved for years, like the Zora from the Legend of Zelda series, and creatures from the films Creature From The Black Lagoon and Hellboy. Bacarians are a highly intelligent race of creatures who are juxtaposed between their delicate bodies and immune system, and their ability to make the most lethal weapons in the galaxy. They are profoundly family-oriented, and will rarely leave their home system, except if their professional and scientific curiosities would mandate it.
Only one more race and class reveal to go. I sincerely hope you have been enjoying Volume 2 so far, and I can't wait to put all of this together in a book for you all to enjoy and play with. As always, thanks to Mike Hegberg and Adam Kovar for their amazing contributions each and every release. I swear the only reason this stuff sounds as cool as it does is because of the amazing work they do bringing my ideas to life.
Thanks to each and every one of you who support this show and help make this new game system a reality. Your love for the show means more than you can ever know.
See you in the cosmos!
